Southeast Utah

Afterglow

More Info

At the end of May through June of 2022 I took a road trip from Houston to an eventual destination in Idaho (and then on to Red Lodge, Montana to teach geology field camp). Along the way I spent a number of days in southern Utah, but away from the National Parks, and in more remote, less traveled areas. “Afterglow” was from a slot canyon in southeastern Utah. Within this passageway, wind and sand blasted through making photography impossible. Light (along with a lot of sand)filtered in from the narrow crack in the roof above and from openings at either end. I went back again in June of 2023 to investigate two other adjacent canyons. One would require technical climbing which would have been fine in my youth, and the other was great, involving a bit of scrambling and getting a bit scratched up. See more images.
